The ABA YLD is Accepting Appointment Applications for the 2009-2010 Bar Year

About the Division
The Young Lawyers Division, composed of approximately 153,500 members, is the home for young lawyers. The Division is committed to assuring that the legal profession reflects the society it serves and to providing the tools and opportunities that young lawyers need to succeed, both professionally and personally.

Eligibility
As of August 1, 2009 you must be a lawyer:

  1. Licensed to practice in the United States
  2. Under the age of thirty-six or admitted to their first US bar within the last 5 years
  3. An ABA member

Although applications are accepted from non-ABA members, any person selected for an appointment must be an ABA member at the start of their appointment term.

Appointment Term
August 1, 2009 – August 7, 2010

Deadline for Applications and Recommendation Letters
February 15, 2009

Applications
All applications must be submitted via the online form.

Recommendation Letters
Up to 3 recommendations can be submitted on your behalf. Letters must be emailed to raullim@staff.abanet.org or faxed to 312-988-6231.

Confirmation of Receipt of Your Application
On February 25, 2009 a list of applicants will be posted to this site. If your name is not on the list please contact Marty Raulli at raullim@staff.abanet.org.

  December Position details are available and applications are accepted
  Mid-February Deadline for applications and recommendations
  Mid-March The Chair-Elect meets with their appointments team
  April-Early May The Chair-Elect offers and announces appointments
  May Teleconference orientation session for all appointees
  June In-person training for select leadership
  August Appointees begin new roles at close of the Annual Meeting Assembly
